MobileWrite

Using MobileWrite, it is easy to enter text and data, in to your favorite Palm OS applications, by simply writing on the screen of your handheld, instead of using the keyboard. It is an improvement over the Graffiti 1 and Graffiti 2 handwriting recognition software found on many Palm OS PDAs and Smartphones. MobileWrite gives you an option to use standard printed letters or Graffiti letters. Using the standard letters, capitals and lowercase letters can be written as you normally would on paper. With its standard set of characters, and the ability to write complete words across the entire width of the screen, letter writing or data entry can be done with less effort. Using the Graffiti letters option, data can be entered faster and with increased accuracy thanks to the efficient 1 stroke letters. MobileWrite supports multiple ways of writing the same character. For example, capital 'A', may be written in 4 different ways, and lowercase 'a', may be written in 2 different ways. All the supported character styles can be viewed by downloading this software and pressing the 'Show' button. Supported devices - Supports Palm, PalmOne, Handspring, Centro, Treo 755p 680 700p 650 600, Lifedrive, Tungsten, TX, Z22, Zire, Sony Clie, and other PDAs and Smartphones which are powered by the Palm Operating System. CES 2012: Google's Schmidt Hints at "Smart Home" Strategy

Google's Eric Schmidt shared plans for the "smart" home at CES Tuesday, hinting at a strategy to move Android beyond devices to a connected ecosystem for everyday living.

Consumers can look forward to a connected home, where every device and appliance is networked, and, if Google's executive chairman Eric Schmidt has his way, powered by Android.

According to a CES panel discussion featuring Schmidt and representatives from Samsung, Sling Media and Benchmark Capital, the smartphone is on its way to becoming a portal for connecting other household appliances like televisions and refrigerators, via a cloud platform.

When Google launched its "Android@Home" service last year, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company made its first foray into connecting household devices via Android apps. Using this service, Android users can already turn lights off and on from their smartphones, and more functions are soon to come.

Connected home "ecosystems" are an emerging trend, reflected in smart appliances that debuted at CES, including an LG refrigerator that helps people manage their diets by connecting their food storage to their smartphone.

Home-improvement retail chain Lowes also has a connected home kit set for release later this year, which will wirelessly link all of a home's devices and systems, such as heating and air, lighting and home theater systems, allowing users to control them from a mobile device.

Schmidt points to his company's open-source platform as one key to its future success in smart-home technology.

"We even have Android in refrigerators now," Schmidt said. "By open-source we mean, 'take it and have fun.' And people have."

When the panel moderator, CNET's Molly Wood, pointed out Android's fragmentation issues may hinder that strategy, Schmidt defended his company's decision to keep Android open source and denieddifferent OS versions on varied devices hurts the platform. Instead, he said they preserve competition and give consumers choice.

"You have to be careful with that word fragmentation. I would say differentiation. Differentiation is positive, fragmentation is negative," he said.

Google's latest update, Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich, aims to cut fragmentation by uniting app developers under a single platform and ensuring consistency across smartphones, tablets and, ultimately, appliances such as refrigerators, televisions and home entertainment systems.

As Android developers find ways to use the platform to connect more of the items people use every day, users may soon find themselves flicking on every appliance in their home from their smartphone. Schmidt describes the future connected home as an intensely personal experience.

"You want to be able to walk into your house and have all the appliances adjust, know it's you," he said.

Mobile Games Attract More Female Players

More women than men play mobile games, underscoring how device-based social play is shifting demographics in the gaming industry.

According to a survey of 15,000 users by mobile social network MocoSpace, which calls itself the largest mobile gaming network, more than a quarter of women age 30 and over play mobile games for more than three hours a day, compared to just under 19 percent of men in the same age group.

The word "gamer" usually calls to mind a teenage boy hunched over a console controller in a dim basement. But, as mobile devices grow in popularity, so do the titles and types of games available to play on them, bringing gaming into the light of day and drawing in a new demographic of players.

A recent report by Flurry Analytics found console games still attract a predominantly male audience, but more women are playing mobile games. The rise in social gaming on smartphoneslikely contributes to this shift. Social networking sites likeMocoSpace, which focus on connecting gamers for social play, are also attracting more female members.

Many popular mobile games such as "Words With Friends" encourage people to play against others via social networking sites. The social aspect of these games may continue to draw in more women and girls, especially as game developers take advantage ofthe trend and start creating more titles with female players in mind.

The video game industry is building on growth of social gaming, due in part to companies like Zynga, maker of popular Facebook games "FarmVille" and "CityVille." As companies specializing in mobile games broaden the number of titles they offer, gaming will continue to draw a wider audience.

Console game makers will also make mobile inroads to drive future revenues. For example, Japanese video game giant Capcom expects one-third of its future profits to eventually come from social network-based games played on smartphones.

Capcom, known for creating the top-selling "Resident Evil" series, is now building a library of mobile games, such as "Smurfs' Village," which may hold more appeal for female players.

As the social gaming trend continues and mobile devices grow in number, speed and sophistication, mobile gaming will likely increase in popularity as well, especially as developers create new titles and types of games for an increasingly female audience.

Hackers Attack Neo-Nazi Groups

Hacktivist collective Anonymous published thousands of names and e-mail addresses connected to Germany's far-right National Democratic Party.

In support of its "Operation Blitzkrieg" campaign, the German wing of Anonymous created the "Nazi-Leaks.net" website and posted the information from the NPD, including contacts from a right-wing newspaper and names taken from neo-Nazi online store lists.

The loosely organized collective has been busy lately disrupting those it opposes and aiming to bolster those it supports. The group's latest efforts highlight its disdain for neo-Nazis, but aren't the first to feel the collective's wrath.

For example, last month in the U.S., Anonymous shut down the Florida Family Association's website, which was rallying against the TLC network show "All-American Muslim." The hackers targeted the group's homepage, saying it destroys free speech. The hackers also exposed the email and IP addresses of more than 30 FFA newsletter subscribers and donors and listed credit card information for a dozen more.

Prior to that recent incident the group gained past notoriety for several attacks against media outlets, businessesand governmentsit views as suppressing free speech, spreading intolerance or infringing basic rights.

Many Germans sympathize with the motivation behind Anonymous' latest attack, but criticize their methods, citing privacy concerns.

"The intention is a good one, but I think this is the wrong way to act," said Simone Rafael, from the anti-Nazi web forum netz-gegen-nazis.de, to the BBC. "Putting the addresses and names of people onto the Internet is the wrong way to do this."

Reportedly, some of the people listed are not right-wing extremists, and a few have been identified as those merely contacted by the right-wing publications seeking interviews.

Even a different faction of Anonymous in Hamburg called the website a "bad" idea.

"The best way to handle people like Nazis is with ridicule and education," the splinter group wrote to Deutsche Welle in an email.

After news of the attack broke, the nazi-leaks.net site became inaccessible, possibly because it was experiencing a high volume of traffic.
